Downed Power Pole Caused by Hit-And-Run Driver: Livermore Police

The downed pole knocked out the power to almost 500 Livermore residents.

LIVERMORE, CA — A hit-and-run driver sheared off a Livermore power pole Monday morning, police officials said. The downed pole knocked out the electricity to almost 500 Livermore customers.

"The involved driver and vehicle fled the scene before emergency personnel arrived," Lieutenant John Hurd said. "We have no further information on the collision."

The incident was reported in the 1100 block of Hillcrest Ave. at about 5 a.m., fire officials said.

Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Captain Jorge Diaz said firefighters who arrived on scene notified PG&E officials of the live wires and downed pole and issued a precautionary shelter-in-place order to nearby residents. According to Diaz, PG&E crews responded to render the wires safe and repair the pole. Livermore police officials responded to investigate the crash.

As of 11 a.m., power had been restored to all but 70 customers in the area. According to the PG&E website, power will likely be fully restored by 3 p.m.
