Rash of Stolen Cars Prompts Warning from Livermore Police
Police officials remind residents that it is illegal to leave cars idling while unattended.
LIVERMORE, CA — The Livermore Police Department is reminding residents that it is illegal to leave running vehicles unattended after three cars were recently stolen.
“Some community members start their vehicles to warm them up and leave them running while they go back inside their residence,” police said via social media. “Others may leave their vehicle running while they quickly run into a store or conduct some other short errand. A vehicle that is left unattended and running is a prime target to be stolen.”
The municipal code says drivers must turn off the engine and remove the key before leaving a car unattended in Livermore.
