Retired Livermore K9 Officer Dies At Age 11

The police department gave Fin a police procession from his home to the veterinarian's office.

LIVERMORE, CA — The Livermore police department is mourning the loss of veteran police canine officer Fin. Police officials said Fin died on Sept. 15 at the age of 11 due to age-related complications.

Fin retired from the department in 2017, after serving about eight years in Livermore.

“Fin was trained in handler protection, narcotics detection, person detection, article detection, tactical and high-risk operations and building searches,” police said. “During his career, Fin was assigned to Patrol, SOU, gang investigations and SWAT. He was instrumental in the arrest of homicide suspects, attempted homicide suspects, burglars, dangerous parolees-at-large, drug dealers, stolen vehicle suspects and many others.”

Fin was a popular local celebrity, who visited schools and appeared at community events.

“K9 Fin will be missed,” police said.
