State Community College Basketball Championships to Be Held in Livermore

The tournament will be held at Las Positas College.

LIVERMORE, CA - If Steph Curry’s incredible shooting has you begging for more basketball action, your chance is coming right here in Livermore. Las Positas College will host the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) state men’s and women’s basketball championship tournaments March 11-13, 2016.

This is the first time the state basketball men’s championships have been held in the East Bay, and the first ever in the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District.

The women’s state championship tournament was held in Oakland in 1992.

“We are excited to host the California community college state championships at Las Positas College,” said LPC President Barry Russell. “The state-of-the-art LPC gymnasium is an excellent location to feature some of the best college basketball players in the United States.”

Community college men’s and women’s basketball teams and fans from throughout the state will convene in Livermore for three days of high intense basketball. The Chabot College women’s team is the defending champion, and is vying for a spot, along with the Chabot and Las Positas men’s teams.

”This demonstrates, once again, what a great asset Las Positas College continues to be for our community,” said Livermore Mayor John Marchand. “Livermore is proud to welcome the State championships which represent the best of community college basketball.”

All games will take place at The Nest, the gymnasium at Las Positas College, 3000 Campus Hill Drive in Livermore.

Pregame activities will include a men’s Sophomore Showcase at Chabot College in Hayward on Friday, March 11, and a women’s Sophomore Showcase on Friday, March 11 at National Basketball Courts at 6474 Patterson Pass Road in Livermore.
