Tri-Valley Salons To Reopen In Protest Of County Rules: Report

Alameda County doesn't allow hairdressers to work outdoors. But even so, some say, that's not a safe solution, Bay Area News Group reported.

TRI-VALLEY, CA — Dozens of hair salons in Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore plan to reopen to the public for one day this month, in protest of Alameda County regulations, Bay Area News Group reported.

Alameda County hair salons have remained closed throughout the duration of the county's shelter-in-place order, while salons in some other counties have moved outdoors. Tri-Valley stylist Renae Earl told BANG that the outdoor environment — with pollutants, wind and pollen — is not a sanitary workspace, and the heat could make it unsafe for masked clients to sit beneath capes.

Dozens of local stylists and salon owners gathered over the weekend to discuss the possible action, KQED reported. They are advocating to be considered essential businesses and subject to strict regulations about cleaning and limitations on the number of customers in a room, BANG reported.

Organizer Christine Palmer said the salons hope the county will not fine them if multiple sites reopen simultaneously, KQED reported. A fine could be as much as $1,000.
