Where is the Best Ice Cream in Livermore?

Patch readers told us on Facebook where to go and cool off with a cone of ice cream around Livermore.

LIVERMORE, CA - July temperatures have been brutal in many regions across the country, with heat indexes over 100 degrees and heat advisories issued in many states.

Forecasters are warning residents across the country to be vigilant and make sure not to spend too much time outdoors when temperatures are high.

"Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside," according to a weather service statement. "When possible, reschedule strenuous activities for early in the morning or in the evening."

Other recommendations from forecasters include wearing loose clothing and drinking plenty of water.
Energy companies are also offering their advice to residents who are plagued by the hot weather. To cut down on costs, it's best to run appliances in the morning and close the blinds to stop the sunlight from heating up a room. Keep the vents closed and doors shut in rooms that are not occupied.

  • Loard's Ice Cream, 1875 Second St: Loard's is the place to go for old-fashioned ice cream as well as unique flavors. With nearly a dozen shops around Northern California, Loard's offers flavors like avocado and egg nog. Stop by for your scoop Monday through Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.
  • Fosters Freeze, 1593 1st St: Foster's has been a west coast tradition since the 1940s where diners can enjoy sundaes, floats, twisters and more. The shop is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Cream, 2375 Railroad Ave: Customers can choose a classic ice-cream cone or sandwich, or the famous ice-cream taco, made with three scoops of ice cream and two toppings. Cream is open seven days a week from noon to 11 p.m. with extended hours to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Meadowlark Dairy, 57 W. Neal St: Founded in the early 1900s, Meadowlark Dairy has become a staple in the East Bay area. Customers can stop by for ice-cream cones and enjoy flavors like strawberry, pineapple, orange and more. Meadowlark Dairy is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
