Bay Area Dance Company will present their third annual Dance for a Difference performance - The Tale of Romeo and Juliet. Established in 2013, Dance for a Difference was created by Bay Area Dance Company Artistic Director, Tiffany Henderson, as a way to give back to the community through performance. Previous beneficiaries of Dance for a Difference have included the Wounded Warrior Project and the Lone Survivor Foundation. This year, proceeds will benefit Raising The Barre, a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing opportunities to Middle and High School students that enable them to develop the skills they need to become compassionate, responsible, confident and strong leaders.

The Tale of Romeo and Juliet will include dancers from Bay Area Dance Company, Tiffany’s Dance Academy and Con Danza, who together will present the Tale of Romeo and Juliet as interpreted through Jazz, Lyrical and Modern dance. This performance is loosely based on the actual full length ballet story, with an unusual twist; it is set in more modern times and the dancers will be dancing to contemporary pieces of music versus the original score by Prokofiev. “The theme of Romeo and Juliet is universal” says Tiffany Henderson, Artistic Director of Bay Area Dance Company and owner of Tiffany’s Dance Academy. “The classic story of the star-crossed lovers provides a unique opportunity to bring this story to life onstage in a new and challenging way.”

When asked about his goal for The Tale of Romeo and Juliet, Cesar Degollado, Director of Con Danza said ““Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none…” is what I hope the audience can take from this tragic tale as well as being moved in many ways by talented, aspiring and professional dancers.”
