Winds, Downed Power Line Blamed for Fire Near Lawrence Livermore Lab

The large fire was about 5 percent contained at about 9:45 p.m.

Alameda County firefighters responded to a large vegetation fire near Lawrence Livermore Laboratory Friday evening. The fire near Coral Hollow Road in an open area 15 miles southeast of Livermore known as Site 300 had grown to around 200 acres as of 9:45 p.m. and was only around 5 percent contained, according to Cal Fire officials.

Briana Bishop, a spokeswoman for the lab, said the fire was reported at 8:19 p.m. after heavy winds in the area knocked down a power line.
