California wine grapes — 25% of Vineyards Ripped Out Amid Crisis (koreadaily.com) — A third-generation farmer in Lodi plans to bulldoze 50 acres of vineyards after failing to find buyers for much of his grape crop, a stark sign of California's wine oversupply crisis. With national wine sales down more than 20% in five years, Lodi growers face tough choices about abandoning vines, selling cheaply, or switching to other crops that could reshape the local farm economy.
2. Lodi Community Art Center issues call for artists (lodinews.com) — Lodi artists, including youth, are invited to submit original small-format works for the Lodi Community Art Center's annual Small Works and Itty-Bitty Mini shows running Nov. 6–Dec. 20. Pieces must meet strict size limits and be for sale, with full guidelines and entry details available on the center's website.
3. Lodi Sandhill Crane Festival seeks student artists (lodinews.com) — Lodi students are being asked to create artwork about local rivers, wetlands, and migrating birds for the Lodi Sandhill Crane Festival's Student Art Exhibition. The festival runs Nov. 6–8 at Hutchins Street Square in Lodi, with lesson plans, paper, and entry details available by emailing the city's coordinator.
4. Law enforcement officers arrest 4 Lodi men for gun trafficking (fox40.com) — Four Lodi men face federal charges after an eight-month investigation into gun and drug trafficking tied to violence in Stockton and Lodi. Operation Spark Plug recovered dozens of firearms and narcotics, and prosecutors say the defendants, all Lodi residents, allegedly conspired to sell more than 37 guns and now face significant prison time if convicted.
5. Sachin Uttam to be Sworn in as Modesto Postmaster (usps.com) — A longtime postal employee is being sworn in as Modesto's new postmaster this Friday, after earlier serving as officer-in-charge in several Central Valley cities including Lodi. While he'll now oversee massive mail operations in Modesto, his experience in nearby communities helps shape his focus on customer service and worker safety that also matters to Lodi-area postal users.
