20-Year-Old Seriously Injured In Long Beach Hit-And-Run: Report

LONG BEACH, CA — A 20-year-old motorcyclist underwent brain surgery after being struck by two vehicles in Long Beach, including one whose driver fled the scene, according to an ABC7 report Monday.

Family members identified the injured motorcyclist as Ronaldo Perez, who recently turned 20. Perez was riding home from work Tuesday, Sept. 22, when he was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Downey Avenue and Andy Street, his family told the station.

While Perez was still lying in the roadway following the initial collision, a second vehicle struck him and its driver did not stop, Long Beach police told ABC7. Police are searching for that driver, according to the station.

Perez suffered severe injuries and underwent brain surgery. ABC7 reported that he also suffered bruising across his body.

His brother, Francisco Perez, told the station that he has remained alongside Ronaldo during his recovery and appealed directly to the driver who left the scene to come forward.

“My brother has been fighting, night after night,” Francisco Perez told ABC7.

He said his brother had been leaving work when the crash occurred. The Perez family has established a GoFundMe fundraiser to help cover Ronaldo's medical expenses and recovery. No description of the vehicle or driver being sought has been released yet.
