3 Teens Shot On Same Long Beach Block In 17 Days: Reports

LONG BEACH, CA — Two teenagers were hospitalized after they were shot Saturday night in Long Beach, marking the second shooting involving juveniles on the same block in less than three weeks.

Long Beach Police Department officers responded at about 9:13 p.m. Saturday to the 1900 block of Lemon Avenue following reports of a shooting, according to CBS Los Angeles.

Officers found a boy and girl, both younger than 18, suffering from gunshot wounds. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported both victims to local hospitals, and police told CBS Los Angeles that both were expected to survive.

Long Beach Local News reported that the boy was listed in critical but stable condition and that the girl's injuries were not considered life threatening. Subsequent reporting by Patch has both victims' injuries now listed as non-life-threatening.

Patch has contacted LBPD seeking clarification on the victims' conditions and additional information about the shooting. Police have not publicly released information about a possible suspect or said what may have led to the shooting. LBPD said the motive, circumstances and suspect information remained under investigation.

3 Teens Shot On Same Block

Saturday's shooting came 17 days after a 17-year-old girl was wounded in another shooting on the same block of Lemon Avenue. At about 5:51 p.m. Sept. 9, LBPD officers responded to the 1900 block of Lemon Avenue and found the girl suffering from a gunshot wound to her lower body, according to previous reporting from Patch.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported her to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening. Police did not identify a suspect or determine a motive in that shooting, although LBPD said the incident was considered possibly gang related.

Sgt. Bradford Stein, an LBPD public information officer, told Patch two days after the shooting that no additional details were available and that the investigation remained active. The two incidents mean three juveniles have been shot on the 1900 block of Lemon Avenue since Sept. 9. Police have not said the shootings are connected.

No additional details about Saturday's shooting had been publicly released as of Monday morning.
