LONG BEACH, CA — A brand new month has started, making way for May's warmer weather and many more beach days in Long Beach.
The week ahead is a busy one for Long Beach residents, here are five things to look out for:
- This week, the city launched a bike-share program that will provide memberships to eligible applicants for an annual fee of $5. The program is open to individuals who are 18 years or older who live, work or attend school in Long Beach and have proof of low-income status. Mayor Rex Richardson said this program will help promote the city's goals of providing more sustainable transport. To apply for the program and for more information visit the city's website.
- At this week's City Council meeting, council members will hear a report on environmental, public health, social, fiscal and economic impacts on the city from sewage spills. Recently, there were two spills into the ocean in Long Beach in less than two months. The Climate, Environment, and Coastal Protection Committee will provide a progress report to help inform ways to eliminate sewage from entering Long Beach's waterways and ocean.
