Alleged Shooter Caught + COVID Cases Up + Water, Sewer Rates Hike

We start with a follow-up on the fatal shooting that left a woman dead last Thursday. Also, LB has a 4.1% COVID-19 positivity rate. Finally, there'll be a water and sewer rate hike, y'all!

Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:
- Follow-up: Here is an update on Thursday's fatal shooting of a woman in the 1700 block of Pine Avenue. The PD has a man experiencing homelessness in custody. If you have any information, please contact Homicide Detectives Ethan Shear or Jose Rodriguez at 562-570-7244. (KTLA)
- Officials say that combining the Delta variant with going mask-less and having unvaccinated residents out and about led to a four-fold increase of COVID-19 cases in the county and a positivity rate of 4.1% in LB. (LB Post)
- The LB Water Department intends an 8% rate hike for water and a 10% increase for sewer rates. Commissioners voted in June to approve it. Residents have a chance to opine during a public hearing on August 26. Unless a majority protest succeeds, the rates take effect after the meeting. (LB Water Department)
- LB Reform Coalition co-founder Carlos Ovalle will seek to unseat Council Member Roberto Uranga (CD 7), who is a two-term incumbent. Ovalle will have competition from Connie White and Harold Dela Cruz, who also filed the initial paperwork. (LBReport)
- The LB Public Library will expand its Chromebook computer and MiFi hotspot lending service, which started in April. Residents may borrow the electronics for two weeks at a time. This program is part of the City's commitment to advance digital inclusion. (City of LB)
