Alvarado, Lafayette and Twain elementary schools accepted California Distinguished School Awards this month at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. The awards recognize schools for exceptional gains in student achievement.

The three schools were among 323 statewide earning recognition. The award is a first for Lafayette, while Alvarado and Twain are repeat winners.
Elementary schools and secondary (middle and high) schools are recognized in alternate years.
