LONG BEACH, CA — The Long Beach Airport broke on Friday ground on a $37 million modernization project that's expected to bring improvements to passengers well ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The planned enhancements included in the Passenger Concourse Enhancement Project include:
“This is about preparing Long Beach Airport for the future while enhancing the experience,” Airport Director Cynthia Guidry said.
$24 million of the project's $37 million cost is being funded by a Federal Aviation Administration grant, while the remainder is expected to be covered by airport revenue, with no local tax dollars utilized, airport officials said.
The project’s completion is expected in the summer of 2027. No impacts to commercial flights are expected, and gate access will be accommodated during construction, according to airport officials.
