Man Dies After Falling Off Motorized Scooter In Long Beach: Police (patch.com) — Long Beach residents are being alerted to a fatal motorized scooter crash that occurred Tuesday morning at Seventh Street and Orizaba Avenue. Police say the rider lost control on the sidewalk, was taken to a local hospital, and later died, with speed, distraction, and intoxication not believed to be factors.
2. New historical society exhibit honors former Long Beach Mayor Beverly O'Neill (presstelegram.com) — A new exhibit at the Historical Society of Long Beach celebrates former Mayor Beverly O’Neill’s life, leadership and three-term impact on the city’s economy and civic identity. Residents can view artifacts, documents and her signature scarves at the Atlantic Avenue museum, with related interpretive panels also planned for City Hall, Long Beach City College and the upcoming U.S. Conference of Mayors.
3. Long Beach's new baseball team debuts with season-opening road win (presstelegram.com) — Long Beach’s new pro baseball team, the Coast, just opened its inaugural Pioneer League season with a 10-6 road win and will play home games at Blair Field. After a 12-game road trip, they’ll finally return for their June 2 home opener, giving local fans a fresh, community-focused baseball option in the city.
4. Long Beach approves Latino Cultural Center in Downtown (sigtrib.com) — Long Beach has officially approved its first Latino Cultural Center at the Jenny Oropeza Community Center downtown, with programming starting in the coming weeks. The city and nonprofit Centro C.H.A. will offer arts workshops, heritage celebrations, youth programs, and civic engagement events, all while regular city services at the site continue. Officials also earmarked millions for facility and park improvements tied to the center.
5. Why the Port of Long Beach Just Opened a Cybersecurity Center (clearancejobs.com) — The Port of Long Beach has opened a new Cyber Defense Operations Center to monitor digital threats around the clock and protect critical cargo and data networks. Working with federal, state, and local partners, the $3.5 million facility aims to block increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks that could disrupt trade and local jobs. Officials say it’s part of a broader push to harden U.S. ports’ cyber defenses.
