LONG BEACH, CA — A man was shot and killed in Long Beach on Thursday afternoon, prompting a homicide investigation, police said.
Officers responded at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday to the area of Cedar Avenue and Plymouth Street following reports of a shooting, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported him to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.
The suspect fled before officers arrived and has not been identified.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Police said no suspect description has been released, and investigators have not determined a motive. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
The victim's identity has not been released pending identification and notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
