Rare Parrot Stolen From Long Beach Home In Predawn Theft, Suspects At Large

LONG BEACH, CA —Police are searching for two men wanted for stealing a rare parrot from outside a home during a predawn burglary earlier this month.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the theft occurred around 2:49 a.m. June 5 in the 3000 block of Cortner Avenue.

Investigators said two men approached a bird cage that was outside a home, opened it and removed the Yellow-Naped Amazon parrot that was inside.

The suspects fled northbound on Cortner Avenue on foot. Detectives believe they then got into a black sedan and left the area, police said.

The stolen bird was described as a Yellow-Naped Amazon parrot, a species known for its distinctive green plumage, yellow markings and ability to mimic human speech. The bird is considered critically endangered.

The suspects remain at large. Police on Wednesday asked for the public's help identifying them.

Police described the first suspect as a man wearing a blue hoodie, jeans and white shoes. The second suspect was described as a man wearing dark clothing and dark-colored shoes.

The vehicle believed to have been used in the theft was described as a black sedan.

Burglary Detail detectives are asking anyone who recognizes the suspects or has information about the incident to contact the Long Beach Police Department.
