LONG BEACH, CA — An 81-year-old Long Beach man was killed Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash near Wardlow Road and Lakewood Boulevard, authorities said.
Officers responded at around 8:10 a.m. to the intersection, where Long Beach Fire Department personnel were providing medical aid to a driver, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Despite lifesaving efforts, the man died at the scene. Police identified him as Richard Adam Brown.
Investigators said a 1998 Chevrolet van was traveling south on Lakewood Boulevard when it turned left onto eastbound Wardlow Road and collided with a 2024 Ford Bronco in the intersection.
The van then accelerated and struck a tree on the south sidewalk of Wardlow Road, police said.
The Bronco’s driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Speed appears to have contributed to the crash, according to police. The investigation remained ongoing Monday afternoon.
