LONG BEACH, CA — A 69-year-old Long Beach woman was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of a woman who was found unresponsive as the result of an assault, police said Sunday.
Officers responded to an assault call just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday to the 2600 block of Grand Avenue, south of the San Diego (405) Freeway and west of Lakewood Boulevard, and found an unresponsive woman at the scene, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel attempted lifesaving measures but determined the victim had died. Her identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Police arrested Estela Jaramillo Rodriguez near the scene and booked her on suspicion of murder after a preliminary investigation indicated she physically assaulted the victim. A possible motive remained under investigation.
Rodriguez was being held on $2 million bail.
Detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for filing consideration.
Anyone with information regarding the case was urged to contact Long Beach police homicide detectives at 562-570-7244.
