LONG BEACH, CA — A 44-year-old Long Beach man has died after being critically wounded in a July 10 shooting, and prosecutors are now pursuing a murder charge against the suspect already accused in the case, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Officers responded at about 7:13 a.m. on July 10 to the 300 block of West Anaheim Street following reports of a shooting. Police said officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds and rendered medical aid before Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported both victims to a local hospital.
William Davis, a Long Beach resident, suffered life-threatening injuries and died at the hospital on July 30, police said. A second victim, a man in his 50s, sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Investigators identified the suspect as Brian Medina, 24, of Long Beach. According to police, Medina was arrested later that day in the 2300 block of Linden Avenue and booked on two counts of attempted murder. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office subsequently filed two counts of attempted murder.
After Davis died, homicide detectives notified prosecutors that the victim had succumbed to his injuries. Police said a murder charge is now pending, and Medina's bail has been set at $3,025,000.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
