More than 22,000 Long Beach residents without power due to SoCal Edison outage (cbsnews.com) — More than 22,000 Long Beach residents lost power Sunday evening during intense heat, with Southern California Edison still working to restore service and no clear cause yet identified. Crews have been mobilized to troubleshoot the outage, which hit as Long Beach baked in 93-degree temperatures under an extreme heat watch.
3. Long Beach jet skier speaks out on dramatic rescue after 16 hours at sea: 'I knew my time was up' (abc7.com) — A Long Beach man who fell off a rented jet ski and drifted for roughly 16 hours was finally spotted and hoisted to safety by the U.S. Coast Guard near Seal Beach. He describes terrifying overnight hours in the ocean, questions the rental company's safety practices, and says surviving the ordeal has given him a renewed sense of purpose.
4. Local archaeologist Richard Dempsey has a discover worth its weight (sigtrib.com) — Long Beach resident and amateur archaeologist Richard Dempsey says his decades-long rock-collecting hobby has led to a major discovery he calls Paleo Story Stones, suggesting new insights into Paleolithic art and beliefs. From his Los Cerritos neighborhood home, Dempsey now showcases stones bearing repeated human and mammoth imagery that researchers are beginning to examine more closely.
