LONG BEACH, CA — A 33-year-old Long Beach man was found dead with "suspicious injuries" Thursday morning, prompting police to launch a murder investigation.
Officers were called to the 6500 block of Muriel Avenue at about 8:27 a.m. following a report of a deceased person, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found a man dead at the scene with suspicious injuries and observed signs of foul play, police said.
The victim was identified as Kenneth Shannon, 33, of Long Beach.
Police said the suspect or suspects fled before officers arrived. Homicide detectives responded to the scene and are investigating Shannon's death as a murder.
No information about a possible suspect or suspects has been released. Police said the motive and circumstances surrounding Shannon's death remain under investigation.
LBPD did not provide additional information Friday in response to questions from Patch about Shannon's injuries, where specifically he was found or whether detectives believe he was killed at the location. The department referred Patch to its Thursday news release.
