📰 News we're reading

• Pedestrian Found Dead Struck Twice — By Train And Vehicle: Long Beach Police (patch.com) — Long Beach police are investigating a deadly incident where a pedestrian was first struck by a hit-and-run driver and then by a Metro Light Rail train near Long Beach Boulevard and East 23rd Street. Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the Saturday night collision to contact detectives or submit anonymous tips through LA Crime Stoppers.

• The Long Beach library just gave dozens of adults a second chance to earn high school diplomas (lbpost.com) — Long Beach adults now have a free, flexible way to finish high school through the Long Beach Public Library's Career Online High School, which just celebrated its largest graduating class. Residents with a library card can enroll, study at their own pace, and even choose career-focused tracks, while officials say the program will continue despite upcoming library budget cuts.

• Long Beach crews battle high tides and dangerous surf from Hurricane Marie (foxla.com) — Long Beach crews are racing to reinforce sand berms near the Peninsula and 64th Place as Hurricane Marie's distant swells send water onto the boardwalk and create dangerous rip currents. Marine safety officials urge residents and visitors to talk with lifeguards before entering the water and to be extremely cautious as high surf is expected to continue for days.
