Motorcyclist Killed In Long Beach Crash After Running Red Light

LONG BEACH, CA — A motorcyclist was killed early Thursday after police said he ran a red light and collided with an SUV in Long Beach.

Officers were called to the area of Atlantic Avenue and Villa Park at about 1:44 a.m. Thursday following reports of an injury collision involving an Acura SUV and a motorcycle, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers found the motorcyclist in the roadway and provided aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived. He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the Acura was also taken to a hospital and was in stable condition, police said.

A preliminary investigation found that the driver of a 2025 Acura SUV was attempting to turn left from Villa Park onto northbound Atlantic Avenue on a green light when a 2026 Honda motorcycle traveling south on Atlantic Avenue ran a red light and collided with the SUV, according to police.

Investigators are examining speed as a possible factor in the crash. The motorcyclist's identity was being withheld pending notification of his family by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
