The Podcast Host is You: The Tech Lesson

so you wanna be the next podcast trillionaire.. let's discuss your new seat on the New York Stock Trade

This post was contributed by a community member.

If you really want to go there, you should start on a small budget and fail from the get go. Do you understand that I mean that you should start with a least $20,000 a month just to maintain the server, let alone pay the people that you need to work the darn thing.

Don't you ever start with an XML file, but a darn lot. The podcast business is confusion, because it was developed in error. XML should be the file type on the host and RSS for distribution. Take the blog, put it in XML form, get an XML-RPC engine and go to work. You have got to be able to use the age old standard of a ping service. You still have to do it. You are just overly frustrated, because they converted it to RSS with extra bloat beyond measure. The bloat kingdom chilren messed it up for everyone.

Please leave this up to your own people due to security issues. Do not but host this in house. Don't you ever put your podcast on a shared hosting plan. Shared hosting plan, stolen money. And do not but use your own Domain Name Server. Without it, you might as well have used shared hosting, especially these days.

You need your own streaming server that can take a large hit on your bandwidth due to listeners downloading audio vs. standard html files of text and pictures, and the data to go along with it. Please do not rest until all your money is gone paying for the hardware and all your money is gone signing paychecks of the software engineers who set it up.

Well, that is all I can get away with for this tech lesson. Everything else, you should know or be square.
