Pedestrian Struck By 3 Vehicles In Long Beach Dies; 2 Drivers Sought

LONG BEACH, CA — A pedestrian died after he was struck by three vehicles while crossing a Long Beach street Sunday evening, authorities said.

Officers responded at about 7:24 p.m. to reports of an injury collision on Pacific Avenue, north of Pacific Coast Highway, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers found an injured man in the roadway and rendered aid until Long Beach Fire Department paramedics arrived, police said. The man was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

A preliminary investigation found that the man was walking east across Pacific Avenue outside a marked crosswalk and stepped into the roadway from the center median, police said.

He was first struck by an unidentified white SUV and then by an unidentified dark-colored sedan, according to police. A third vehicle, a 2021 Jaguar, also struck the man.

The Jaguar driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.

The man was in his 50s, LBPD spokesperson Andres Bonilla told the Long Beach Post. His identity was being withheld pending notification of his family by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. The Post also reported that the other two drivers fled the scene.

Detectives said speed, distracted driving and impaired driving do not appear to have been factors in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.

Sunday's death marked Long Beach's 34th fatal crash of 2026, compared with 36 at the same point last year, according to the Post. The publication reported that 2025 ultimately saw the city's highest number of fatal crashes in more than a decade.
