LONG BEACH, CA — A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after police say he shot a man inside a downtown Long Beach Chipotle in the middle of the afternoon.

Jahvanni Jaquawn Jordan, 19, of Long Beach, was arrested in connection with the Sept. 20 shooting, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Rakyia Janiece Harris, also 19 and from Long Beach, was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory after the fact.

Police said officers responded at about 1:45 p.m. to a shooting in the 200 block of Pine Avenue, where they found a 38-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body.

The Long Beach Post reported that the shooting occurred inside the Chipotle just south of Third Street. City records identify the restaurant as the Chipotle at 245 Pine Ave., Suite 190.

Police said a dispute between the victim and Jordan escalated before Jordan allegedly pulled out a gun and shot him. The victim was taken to a hospital with an injury that was not considered life-threatening.

Detectives assigned to the department's Gang Detail investigated the shooting and used security-camera footage to identify Jordan as the suspected shooter and Harris as a woman they allege helped him escape.

The investigation ultimately led detectives back to Pine Avenue eight days later.

On Monday, Sept. 28, detectives and SWAT personnel served a search warrant in the 700 block of Pine Avenue and arrested Jordan and Harris, according to police. The Long Beach Post reported that SWAT officers arrived near Pine Avenue and Seventh Street at about 6 p.m. and the two suspects were taken into custody roughly 30 minutes later.

Police described the dispute that preceded the shooting as gang-related, according to the Post.

Jordan was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and Harris on suspicion of accessory after the fact. Police said both were being held on $1 million bail.

No reliable court record indicating that prosecutors had formally filed charges against either suspect was immediately available Friday morning.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to contact Long Beach police detectives at 562-570-7370. Anonymous tips can be submitted to LA Crime Stoppers or by calling 800-222-TIPS (8477).
