Arrest Made In Fatal Stabbing Of Man At Long Beach Metro Station

A 66-year-old homeless man has been arrested for the April 1 stabbing of a 72-year-old South Gate man at a Metro station in Long Beach.

LONG BEACH — A 66-year-old homeless man has been arrested for the April 1 stabbing of a 72-year-old South Gate man on a Metro train in Long Beach earlier this month.

Police said April 8 that Cary Odell Singletary, a 66-year-old unhoused person, was booked for attempted murder, and his bail was set at $1,000,000.

The case originated around 5 am on April 1. Officers responded to the 400 block of North Pacific Avenue regarding a report of a stabbing and found the victim lying on the Metro station platform on Pacific Avenue near Fifth Street, police said.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel rendered medical aid to the victim, who had a life-threatening stab wound, and transported him to a local hospital.

The police investigation found a male adult suspect stabbed the victim, but the suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.

Detectives believe the victim and suspect did not previously know each other. The motive remains under investigation.

During their investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Singletary.
