MANHATTAN BEACH — The Long Beach Bureau of Environmental Health issued a water advisory due to unsafe levels of bacteria in ocean waters at 55th Place Beach.

The Bureau collects samples weekly from various sites year-round to test and monitor bacteria levels. On Thursday the division found the ocean water at two locations at 55th Place Beach exceeded state standards for bacterial levels.

The department of public health discourages swimming in the water at the beach because it may cause illness.
