Bacteria Warning Issued For Long Beach

LONG BEACH, CA - Once again, beachgoers on Monday were advised to avoid swimming at a number of Los Angeles County beaches, including near Belmont Pier in Long Beach.

The Long Beach Health Department collects samples weekly from various sites year-round to test and monitor bacteria levels. On Monday, the division found the ocean water at the beach on the west side of the Belmont Pier in Long Beach exceeded state standards for bacterial levels.

The warning was a result of increased bacteria levels in the water after county testing. Unsafe bacteria levels means residents should avoid swimming, surfing and playing in the water.

Bacteria warnings were also issued for Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro, Malibu Lagoon at Surfrider Beach, Maria Canyon Storm Drain at Puerto Beach, Santa Monica Canyon Creek at Will Rogers State Beach, Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu, Santa Monica Pier and Mother’s Beach in Marina Del Rey.

The public may see warning signs displayed at the beach. To view a list of the locations visit the Public Health Department’s website. The list will be updated when conditions change and the water is found to be safe to swim, surf and play in again.
