Bicyclist Killed In Long Beach Hit-And-Run; Driver Sought

Police said the driver fled after striking the man early Monday.

LONG BEACH, CA — A bicyclist was killed early Monday in a hit-and-run crash in Long Beach, and police are searching for the driver who fled the scene.

Officers responded at about 2:38 a.m. to the area of Cowles Street and Santa Fe Avenue after receiving a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police found an adult man in the roadway. Long Beach Fire Department personnel provided medical aid, but the man died at the scene, police said.

Investigators believe the bicyclist was riding west on Cowles Street when he was struck by an unknown vehicle that turned east onto Cowles Street from southbound Santa Fe Avenue, according to police.

The driver left the scene after the crash, police said.

The man’s name was being withheld pending identification by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
