Join us Saturday, August 22nd at 1pm in the gallery for a closing reception and curator-led tour with the artists of Built on Water.
Facilitated by curator Cecelia Caro, artists Flora Kao, Kaya & Blank, Jennifer Gunlock, Hilary Norcliffe and Katie E. Stubblefield will discuss past, present and future visions of the Port within their works and creative practice.
Overlooking the Ports of LA and Long Beach, AGCC provides a unique vantage point to consider the region's layered landscape and storied histories beneath. Flora Kao excavates memories of Japanese settlers on Terminal Island through her evocative cyanotype works, while duo Kaya & Blank provide a new perspective on the present industrial landscape through photography and video. Jennifer Gunlock, Hilary Norcliffe and Katie E. Stubblefield’s collaborative installation imagines a visionary future, where mother nature reclaims and humanity progresses in harmony with the natural world.
The closing reception begins at 1pm in the gallery with a curator-facilitated artist talk beginning at 2pm. This event is free and open to the public.
