COVID-19 Health & SafetyThe City reminds everyone to remain vigilant in practicing all health and safety protocols outlined in the Safer at Home Health Order. Pursuant to State guidance, people are encouraged to participate in outdoor social gatherings as opposed to indoor, maintain appropriate physical distancing from others, and should continue to wear a well-fitted face mask when in public places and while indoors, even if fully vaccinated. 

Fireworks SafetyNot only are all personal fireworks, including those labeled “Safe and Sane,” prohibited in the City of Long Beach, but they’re also a hazard for people and nearby structures, causing tens of millions of dollars in property damage annually and resulting in many injuries, the majority of which suffered by children. The loud, unexpected noise of fireworks also pose a serious health risk for veterans and other people experiencing post-traumatic stress, and cause panic for many pets.

To report illegal firework activity occurring in Long Beach, people can follow one of the below methods. For emergencies, always dial 9-1-1.

In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, the City facilities and services listed below will adhere to the following schedules.

*Indicates City facilities and services currently operating under modified operations until further notice due to COVID-19 public health restrictions. 

City HallCity Hall remains closed to the public until further notice, except for scheduled appointments for the Permit Center. Residents are encouraged to utilize online services during this time.

Street SweepingThere will be no scheduled street sweeping or enforcement of street sweeping violations on Monday, May 31. Street sweeping will resume its regular schedule on Tuesday, June 1.

Parking EnforcementRead your parking meter: Parking meters will be enforced on Monday, May 31, unless the meter states "Exempt on Holidays." The days and hours of enforcement are displayed inside the meters.

Refuse/RecyclingTrash and Recycling will be collected as scheduled on Monday, May 31.

Towing and Lien SalesThe Towing Operations & Vehicle Storage Facility, located at 3111 E. Willow St. between Temple Avenue and Redondo Avenue, will be closed on Monday, May 31. Normal business hours are:

Vehicles and property are available for release outside of the hours listed above for an additional fee. More information can be found online.

LibrariesOn May 18, 2021, BJK Main Library, Bay Shore, Mark Twain and Michelle Obama Neighborhood Libraries reopened to the public with limited capacity and select services. LBPL To-Go services remain available at the above reopened LBPL locations as well as at Bret Harte, El Dorado and Los Altos Neighborhood Libraries. Five LBPL locations, Alamitos, Bach, Brewitt, Burnett and Dana Neighborhood Libraries, remain closed to the public with no offered services at this time.

In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, all Library locations and services, including the Library main phone line, will be closed on Saturday, May 29. Library patrons are encouraged to utilize LBPL’s vast collection of digital resources, including the Library catalog, downloads, and databases, available 24/7.
