City Of Long Beach:Community Invited To Provide Input On Parks, Recreation And Marine Strategic Plan

The Plan will guide PRM’s operational, staffing and budget decisions for a 10-year period from 2021 to 2031 and serve as a tool to adapt park services as the community’s needs evolve. Community members are invited to review the Draft Strategic Plan and share feedback by completing an online survey. The survey is available in English, Spanish, Khmer and Tagalog through August 10, 2021.

“We have seen how parks and open space are essential to our community during the past 15 months,” said Parks, Recreation and Marine Department Director Brent Dennis. “After putting the development of the Plan on hold for 2020 to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are excited to share the Draft Strategic Plan with our community and move forward.”

The Draft Plan was developed through robust outreach and used a community outreach methodology centered around the voice of residents and staff. This multifaceted process included engagement with more than 2,000 participants through multiple rounds of community surveys, public workshops and events, stakeholder interviews, newsletters, emails and meetings with PRM Department staff, key stakeholders and the public in English, Spanish, Khmer and Tagalog. 

Public comments will be taken through August 10, 2021, and incorporated into the final Plan, which is expected to be presented to the Parks and Recreation Commission for approval on August 19, 2021, and presented to the City Council for adoption in September 2021.
