City Of Long Beach:Health Department Offers Assistance With State Medical Insurance Enrollment

Covered California recently announced that all eligible consumers will be able to enroll throughout the end of this year. 

Help is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at 562.570.7979. Certified Enrollment Counselors speak English, Spanish and Khmer, and have access to Tagalog and several other languages. Questions may be directed to coveredlb@longbeach.gov. 

People who sign up through Covered California will have access to private health insurance plans. Monthly premiums will be significantly lower for an estimated 2.5 million Californians due to a $3 billion infusement of health care subsidies from the American Rescue Plan. Additionally, individuals receiving Unemployment Insurance Benefits (UIB) will get extra financial help to lower monthly premiums and out-of-pocket cost. These consumers can purchase a Bronze level coverage for little as $1 per month. After selecting a plan, their coverage would begin on the first day of the following month.

Medi-CalConsumers who sign up through CoveredCA.com may find out that they are eligible for no-cost or low-cost coverage through Medi-Cal, which they can enroll in online. Those eligible for Medi-Cal can have coverage that is immediately effective. California has halted Medi-Cal renewal reviews and discontinuances through the end of the public health emergency, ensuring that those already enrolled can continue their coverage. 

Rapid Assessment Clinic (RAC)If you have an illness that requires medical attention before your health care coverage activates, please visit the Rapid Assessment Clinic (RAC), a free clinic that provides assessment and treatment for common ailments like earaches and urinary tract infections. The RAC at Long Beach City College Pacific Coast Campus (1305 E. Pacific Coast Hwy.) is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., weekdays. No appointment is necessary.
