Conductor Larry Curtis Concert Park is being dedicated with a sign unveiling and Dixieland-style performance by some of the band’s members at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 30, at 5255 Paoli Way, where the Municipal Band regularly plays during the summer months. Following an item brought forth by Councilwoman Suzie Price and approved by the City Council at large, the naming recognizes Curtis’s legacy as the leader of the Municipal Band for 27 years, conducting more than 700 concerts. Curtis died last year at age 82. His son, Kurt Curtis, is now the band’s conductor.

“I was so glad to be able to introduce the naming of this park after Larry Curtis,” Price said. “He infused so much joy and fun and enthusiasm into the community over his 27 years and 700 concerts as conductor of the Muni Band, that adding his name to this park space is the perfect way to memorialize him. Additionally, the amazing community support and love felt for Larry has made this naming a truly community driven effort. I look forward to attending future Muni Band concerts held at the beautiful Conductor Larry Curtis Concert Park.”
