Long Beach, CA – The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) will continue offering its Mobile Recess Program with a new series beginning Dec. 6 and through Feb. 25, 2022. Registration for the new series, operating weekdays from 2:30 to 5 p.m., begins Monday, Nov. 22, at 2:30 p.m. in person and online.

PRM staff will drive trucks loaded with supplies and equipment to designated neighborhood streets and provide recreation activities for youth ages 5 through 14 (Grades K-8). Streets are blocked off for safety and kids participate in supervised physical fitness and arts and crafts activities.

Beginning Nov. 22, people may register online on LBParks.org, or in person at any of the participating Mobile Recess locations, Monday through Friday, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Registration will remain open until the program reaches capacity. Space is limited, advance sign-ups are required, and all sign-ups are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Mobile Recess Program will be held at the following locations:

  • Monday & Wednesday Sites
    • Atlantic Plaza Park, located in the Carmelitos Housing Community, 1000 Via Wanda Ave.
    • Craftsman Village Park, 851 Orange Ave.
  • Atlantic Plaza Park, located in the Carmelitos Housing Community, 1000 Via Wanda Ave.
  • Craftsman Village Park, 851 Orange Ave.
  • Tuesday & Thursday Sites
    • Rose Park, corner of Orizaba Avenue and 8th Street
    • 17th Street between Henderson Avenue and Chestnut Avenue
  • Rose Park, corner of Orizaba Avenue and 8th Street
  • 17th Street between Henderson Avenue and Chestnut Avenue
  • Friday Sites
    • 23rd Street between Cedar Avenue and Chestnut Avenue
    • Burton Chace Park, located at Market Street and Dairy Avenue

  • Burton Chace Park, located at Market Street and Dairy Avenue

    • To ensure the safety of all participants and staff, the Mobile Recess Program will implement the following COVID-19 safety protocols:

  • Health screenings for participants and staff.
  • Limiting the number of participants in each location.
  • Maintaining no larger than a 14:2 participant-to-staff ratio.
  • Implementing physical distancing protocols, including at check-in and checkout.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing facilities multiple times each day.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing all high-touch areas frequently.

    • The Mobile Recess Program is made possible by federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding allocated under the Long Beach Recovery Act. The Long Beach City Council voted to adopt the Long Beach Recovery Act in March of 2021, becoming one of the first major cities to approve to COVID-19 recovery program utilizing ARPA and other federal funding.
