Council Approves Plans To Rebuild Fire Station 9 In North Long Beach

A new station will be built in the Virginia Country Club area almost three years after the previous location was shut down due to mold.

LONG BEACH, CA — The Long Beach City Council voted Tuesday to rebuild Fire Station 9 in the Virginia Country Club area almost three years after the previous building was shut down due to mold issues.

The new station will be just blocks north of the original station at 4101 Long Beach Blvd. The re-addition of the station, which the city said will be modern and two stories tall, could help reduce response times for incidents in the area.

According to a report by the Long Beach Post, members of the community expressed concerns about the privacy of neighboring homes, increased traffic and adverse impacts on residents at the Tuesday City Council meeting. However, Councilmember Al Austin said the new station was an overall positive for the community.
