Councilman Experiences Medical Emergency After Son's Death: Report
Long Beach Councilmember Roberto Uranga will be taking some time off to focus on his well-being and his family.
LONG BEACH, CA — Long Beach Councilman Roberto Uranga will be taking some time off after his son's passing on Sept. 22, his office announced Saturday.
Roberto Tomas Uranga was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of cancer in 2020, according to a Facebook statement. He is survived by his wife Adrienne and his son Thomas, his parents Roberto and Tonia and his siblings Rosalinda and Emiliano.
"Tito had an extraordinarily kind and generous heart with a passion for music, cinema and barbecuing; His greatest joy being a father to his son, Tommy," the statement said. "Tito's unique charisma gave him a truly special quality of making every person who met him feel like they had a connection with him. The Uranga family greatly appreciates your thoughts, prayers and respectfully asks for privacy at this difficult time."

Due to his son's passing, Councilman Uranga suffered a medical emergency and will be away from office to focus on his health, well-being and family. For the time being, the 7th District office staff will serve residents, the Facebook post said.
Uranga expects to return to his duties as soon as possible, the statement said.
