Authorities are investigating the death of a woman Monday during a cruise from Long Beach that was sailing from Catalina to Ensenada, Mexico, KTLA reports.

The incident happened Monday morning on the Carnival Firenze, a roughly 1,000-foot cruise ship that has a guest capacity of about 4,100 people and typically carries a crew of about 1,400 people.

In a statement, Carnival said the woman plunged from the balcony of her stateroom and landed on a deck below, KTLA reported.

“The female guest was traveling with family who alerted the ship’s crew of the situation,” the cruise line said.

No details about the woman's identity have been released, including her name, age, or city of residence. A reason was not provided regarding how or why she fell.

Carnival said law enforcement boarded the ship to investigate while it was docked off Catalina and that the woman's family left the ship and returned home.
