CSULB Bob Cole Conservatory Of Music Returns From COVID Hiatus

The Winterfest Christmas Concert continues its 36 year tradition at the historic First Congregational Church of Long Beach this Sunday at 4pm. The Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at CSULB had to halt all concerts and recitals for over a year due to COVID restrictions. This was a major blow to the conservatory as revenue from selling tickets to performances are a major source of funding for the educational organization.

The partnership with Long Beach's oldest church, founded by Jotham and Margaret Bixby, co-founders of the city of Long Beach, goes back over three decades. The church sanctuary, with a newly refurbished stained glass window, seats 1,500 and the Winterfest concert always sold out with three shows the first weekend in December. First Congregational Church of Long Beach benefits from the partnership through exposure. Once concert goers see how beautiful the church is and learn its history with the City of Long Beach, they are primed to make donations to the historical preservation of the building.

First Congregational Church of Long Beach also benefits by selling a combination ticket that includes a sumptuous reception immediately following the December 5th 4pm concert. The tickets costs $70 each and half of that goes to fund a 501c3 housed at the church that serves underprivileged children in downtown Long Beach. The DAYS Long Beach non profit was started over four decades ago by congregant Dorothy Baker who was a professor at CSULB.
