Driver Killed, 2 Hospitalized In High-Speed Long Beach Crash

LONG BEACH, CA — A driver was killed and two women were hospitalized after a high-speed crash on Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach late Saturday, authorities said.

Long Beach police officers responded at about 10:35 p.m. to the 5700 block of Pacific Coast Highway following reports of an injury crash.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2026 Tesla was traveling westbound on Pacific Coast Highway at a high rate of speed when it struck a 2025 Volkswagen exiting a shopping center, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The Tesla then jumped the curb and crashed into a cinder-block wall, damaging several parked vehicles, police said. The Volkswagen struck a sign.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel took the Tesla driver, an unidentified man, to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The Volkswagen's 48-year-old female driver and 43-year-old female passenger were also taken to hospitals. Police did not provide information about their conditions.

Speed and impaired driving appear to have contributed to the crash, according to investigators. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner will identify the man and notify his next of kin.
