We talk about calling and vocation a lot in my line of work. I believe
that every one of us has a calling – at least one! – in this world. It’s
not just for ordained ministers – we are all invited to amazing,
frustrating, ridiculous, magical work of “becoming ourselves,” as the
poet May Sarton put it. It’s not always easy as individuals, let alone
as a community. But as Father Richard Rohr suggests in the quote above,
if we can come to a clear sense of who we are, individually and
collectively, our practical vocation becomes self-evident. Our “human
Being” becomes the wellspring of our “human Doing.”
