Filipino Festival, Wine Mixer: 5 Things Ahead This Week In LBC
Here are five things to know about this upcoming week in Long Beach.

LONG BEACH, CA — May ended with a three-day weekend of relaxation for Long Beach residents, and the summer months have officially started.
The week ahead is a busy one for Long Beach residents, here are five things to look out for:
- Young people in Long Beach can now apply to be a part of the city's Youth Advisory Council. The council will be a body of 11 people between the ages of 16 to 26 who will focus on lifing up the voices of the youth in Long Beach and help address their needs for growth. - For those who like to support local farmers and enjoy fresh produce, this week's farmer's markets are on Tuesday at Bixby Park, Wednesday at Marine Stadium, Thursday in Bixby Knolls, Friday in Downtown Long Beach, Saturday at Bixby Park and Sunday at the Long Beach Marina. - The Catalina Wine Mixer is back for those looking to enjoy a short weekend trip just a short way off the coast of Long Beach. Starting Friday guests 21 years old or older will flock to Catalina Island to enjoy live music, wine tastings and special VIP programming to enjoy the eighth year of the famed event. - In honor of National Gun Violence Awareness Day, many city health officials, hospitals and members of law enforcement will wear orange on June 2 to take a stand against the growing threat of gun violence. According to the CDC, guns are now the leading cause of death in children. Members of the community can meet at the Miller Children's and Women's Hospital at 12 p.m. to hear remarks and learn how to stop the bleeding from a severe injury.
- Rounding out the week on Saturday at the LBX Hangar, the Filipino Festival will give attendees a chance to celebrate Philippines Independence Day and support local Filipino American small businesses. The event is free to attend and families and pets are welcome to enjoy authentic Filipino food and drinks, clothing and home decor.
