Horned Drag Queen Reads To Kids At Long Beach Library
The Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library event was part of LGBTQ History Month. Would you take your kids to drag queen storytime?

LONG BEACH, CA – A drag queen wearing five demon-like horns, stark white face paint, and wild auburn hair read to kids at the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library in Long Beach on Saturday as part of LGBTQ History Month. After the event, drag queen Xochi Mochi posted an Instagram photo of him reading to the children at the library, saying it was "one of the best experiences I’ve been given as a drag queen." They go onto say they saw many excited faces, and it filled their heart with "so much joy."
Republican congressional candidate Omar Navarro tweeted a picture of Xochi Mochi with the caption "Demonic teachings alive in Long Beach. I’m outraged they would allow this."

What are we teaching kids in school? Demonic teachings alive in Long Beach. I’m outraged they would allow this. pic.twitter.com/Q72nhnWbBo

The Long Beach Public Library has removed the photo they had posted of the event, according to The Blaze, before posting a statement on their Facebook page where they say:
"The storytime was very well attended, with 60-70 people in attendance. Unfortunately, the social media post the City of Long Beach Public Library shared to celebrate LBGTQ History Month received several hateful and harmful comments to the LGBTQ community, mostly from those outside of Long Beach, and ultimately the City decided to remove the post as it was no longer a productive conversation."

Facebook user Crystal McNaughton commented on the Long Beach Public Library post, writing "I’m so happy to hear that you continue having this event and we would love to attend. I'm so sorry about the hateful bigotry you experienced on your page. It just shows that there are still a lot of people with a lot of ignorance and we have a long way to go before true acceptance of the LGBT community."
Another, Sasha Kuczynski, commented "Yay, LBPL! Our only complaint is that we didn't hear about this event in time to attend. We will follow your page more closely in the future. Meanwhile, THANK YOU for contributing to a richly diverse and FABulous Long Beach!"
The Long Beach Public Library says they'll continue hosting events to celebrate the "rich diversity" of the City and its residents. What's your initial reaction? Would you take your children to this event, or steer clear?
