Hotel Maya Announces Its ‘Maya-Animals’ Experience For 2022

It’s out of this world as Hotel Maya presents its 12-month “Maya-Animals” Experience program that highlights animals whose characteristics the Mayans assigned to their deities.

The Mayan animals that are popular and powerful symbols in Mayan mythology and culture are Deer, Turtles, Iguanas, Lizards, Armadillo, Bats, Rabbit, Ducks, Pumas, Snakes, Crocodiles, Monkeys, Macaws, Parrots, Quetzals, Hawks, Falcon and ­– the Jaguar, which is the most spiritual and famous Mayan animal. The Mayans believed that all kings would share their spirits with the Jaguar, which was a highly respected and loved animal by the Mayan people.

In the spirit of honoring these powerful symbols of Mayan mythology and culture Hotel Maya will feature a different Mayan animal to honor once a month during a Sunday brunch from 12-3 p.m. The “Maya-Animals” Experience will include, live dance performances, animal demonstrations, music, storytelling, lectures and many other exciting events for both kids and adults to enjoy.

The “Maya-Animals” Experience will kick off on January 16 from 12-3 p.m., featuring Lori Prichard, owner of HawkEye Predators, and Hollywood the Hawk. Guests will enjoy an up-close experience to a flying bird of prey demonstration. Each hour, the falconer will conduct an informative presentation and then proceed below to the waterfront level to fly the raptor over the patrons and patio on a round-trip journey to the rooftop perches and back to falconer.
