Hotel Maya's ‘Maya-Animals’ Celebrates the ‘Crocodile’ on July 24

To celebrate the “Crocodile,” one of the Mayan animals most popular and powerful symbols in Mayan mythology and culture, Hotel Maya will host a live Mesoamerican storytelling dance performance in Fuego for educational purposes and complimentary photos on Sunday, July 24 from 12-3 p.m.

Back by popular demand, the beloved Copali-Copili Mesoamerican dance group will perform special dances to honor and tell the story of the crocodile.

In Mayan culture, crocodiles played an important role in Mayan ideology. They were primarily associated with fertility, as they were responsible for the timely arrival of rains and the fertility of the soil. They also were associated with the elite and legitimized their power.
