How to Age Independently: Free Online Classes for Older Adults and Caregivers
SCAN Independence at Home offers trusted, free online classes via Zoom to provide answers to frequent questions in a welcoming format.

Aging with grace means something different for everyone, but for many, it means staying independent, staying safe, and staying in the comfort of your own home for as long as possible. SCAN Independence at Home understands that aging well isn’t about doing it alone. It is about having the right support, resources, and reliable information along the way. That’s why we offer free online classes designed to answer the most common questions older adults (55+) and caregivers ask about aging independently.
Are you wondering how to eat healthier without making it complicated?
Nutrition plays a powerful role in aging well, yet many older adults feel overwhelmed by changing dietary advice, medical recommendations, or the simple question: “What should I be eating now?” Their Eat Smart class on March 6 at 10:30 a.m. PST makes healthy eating feel manageable. Participants learn practical tips for meal planning, making smarter food choices, and building habits that support energy, heart health, and overall wellness. Eating well doesn’t have to mean drastic changes, sometimes it just takes a little guidance and a few small adjustments.

Are you caring for someone with memory loss and worried about medication mistakes?
Managing medications is challenging for anyone. For someone living with memory loss, the risk of missed doses, double dosing, or confusion increases significantly. Independence at Home’s Memory Loss and Medication Safety class on March 9 at 11:00 a.m. PST offers caregivers and family members helpful strategies to organize medications safely, reduce risks, and support loved ones living with cognitive changes. This class is designed for anyone who has ever asked, “How can I help make this easier and safer?”

Do you want to better understand the changes that come with aging for yourself or someone you love?
Aging brings physical, emotional, and behavioral changes that can sometimes be misunderstood. Independence at Home’s trademarked Trading Ages training March 10 at 1:30 p.m. PST, teaches participants to recognize age-related challenges and improve communication with older adults. Through practical examples and interactive activities, attendees gain insight into how aging affects behavior and attitudes, and learn strategies to strengthen interactions with friends, family members, and professional contacts.
Are sleepless nights making it harder to enjoy your days?
Sleep becomes more elusive as we age, and many people want to avoid sleep medications if possible. Yet poor sleep can affect mood, memory, balance, and overall health. Getting a Good Night’s Sleep Without Medications class on March 13 at 11:00 a.m. PST helps participants learn healthy sleep habits and practical techniques that promote restful nights naturally. Feeling well-rested is one of the foundations of aging independently.
Do you struggle with taking multiple medications correctly?
Many older adults today take several prescriptions, vitamins, and supplements, and it can quickly become overwhelming. Confusion about timing, dosage, and interactions can lead to dangerous situations. Independence at Home is offering a class called “No More Medicine Mayhem” on March 19 at 2:00 p.m. PST. It helps participants understand how to safely use medications, stay organized, and ask the right questions of healthcare providers. Clear information builds confidence, and confidence supports independence.
Are you looking for meaningful ways to reflect, connect, and share your life story?
Aging independently isn’t only about health and safety — it’s also about purpose and connection. The Guided Autobiography I series beginning April 1 at 10:00 a.m. PST invites participants to explore meaningful life themes through writing and small-group sharing. Guided by a trained instructor, participants reflect on personal memories, write short stories, and connect with others in a supportive setting. Research consistently shows that reflection and social engagement contribute to emotional well-being.
