DWP Worker Found Dead at Haynes Power Plant

The victim ID and the cause of death at the Long Beach plant on the Seal Beach border have yet to be made public.

A Department of Water and Power employee was found dead Saturday at a generating station in Long Beach, a utility spokesperson said.

The employee was found dead about 1:30 a.m. at the Department of Water and Power's Haynes Generating Station in Long Beach, said Joseph Ramallo of the Department of Water and Power.

The employee was found in an area of the plant, at the edge of Seal Beach, located away from construction activity, Ramallo said.

The employee's name was withheld until family members could be notified, he said. An LADWP press release state's the cause of death is under investigation.

The plant uses natural gas to generate steam that powers generating turbines, and it is currently being extensively remodeled to eliminate the use of ocean water to cool the plant. It was generating electricity this week, he said.

"This is a tragic loss and tragedy for our employee's family and our entire LADWP family," said Aram Benyamin, Senior Assistant General Manager, Power. "Our hearts go out to the family, friends and co-workers of our employee."
